Three Scenic Off-the-Beaten-Path Destinations in the Philippines

The CEO of JVR Publishing in Land O' Lakes, Florida, Julius-Vincent Reyes has worked with computers for over two decades. In his leisure time, Julius-Vincent Reyes enjoys sports and travel, having ventured as far as the Philippines. For visitors to this island nation, here are three locations which, while not commonly known, offer unforgettable views and experiences.

1. Hinatuan Enchanted River. Located on Mindanao, the second-largest island in the Philippines, this mysterious formation sits near the eastern shore, against the Philippine Sea. The name of this river stems from the fact that it is unclear where the water originates. However, visitors can enjoy the otherworldly aquamarine water, and even take a swim on a hot day.

2. Adams, Ilocos Norte. This picture-perfect location is found on Luzon Island, the country’s largest and most populated island, at the very northwestern tip. Travelers here can expect greenery, waterfalls, hiking trails, rivers, and rice paddies, coming together for an unforgettably relaxing trip away from civilization. Also, the sweet Bugnay wine from the region is famous.

3. Siquijor Island. Sitting in the center of the Philippines, Siquijor offers less-crowded white-sand beaches, and many old and supposedly haunted churches to explore. It's also known for its cliff diving, popular among more adventurous guests. Siquijor was once called the Island of Fire for it's swarms of fireflies, giving it an almost supernatural glow off the coast.

USF Alumni Association Hosts Reception With Honors College Dean

A computer engineering graduate of the University of South Florida (USF), Julius-Vincent Reyes works as the chief executive officer of JVR Publishing located in Land O’ Lakes, Florida. Today, Julius-Vincent Reyes is still connected to his alma mater and belongs to the university’s alumni association.

The USF Alumni Association allows friends and alumni of the university to connect with other like-minded individuals, support the university’s endeavors, and participate in numerous events. Founded in 1969, the nonprofit organization invites the university’s more than 280,000 graduates to join.

Dues for membership are 75 percent tax-deductible and generate revenue for the organization’s scholarships, programs, and services. New graduates receive a complimentary one-year membership, which begins approximately 6 to 10 weeks after commencement.

One recent event sponsored by the USF Alumni Association was a Jacksonville reception featuring Dr. Charles Adams, the dean of the Honors College. The event, which occurred on February 23, 2017, at Moxie Kitchen + Cocktails, brought together alumni and friends of USF to listen to what the dean had to say. More than two dozen people were on the guest list. Upon their arrival, they enjoyed complimentary appetizers and a cash bar.
